The webcam is set to shoot only one frame in every minute, so the chances of catching this were nearly impossible, but there it is!
What would it be like if the U.S. was war torn like Syria? A new video by international NGO Save the Children imagines just that, through the eyes of a young girl:
The disturbing video features shots of the girl as she goes about her normal life over the course of a year. The video begins and ends with the child celebrating her birthday. Between shots, we see how her life changes dramatically as war ravages her country.
THIS IS SO IMPORTANT WHY DOES IT ONLY HAVE 32 NOTES
We are created by being destroyed.
A few weeks ago me and one of my friends went to see The 1975. Whilst there, we were having an amazing time, and I’m usually the kind of person who wouldn’t dare to do anything other than what I’m used to. However, there was a moment during the concert where I realised that life’s about making the most of every moment given to you. There was a guy stood to the right of me who we’d been chatting with a little bit, and after a lot of hesitation and shyness, I told myself ‘5 seconds of courage is all it takes’. So I tapped him on his shoulder, and forced out the words “could I get up on your shoulders please?”, and to my surprise a huge smile lit up on his face and he said, “of course”.
He then bent down, I got behind him and felt the hands of everyone around us helping me up onto his shoulders. I don’t know who these people were but, they just helped me anyway - people are great.
At this point we were around 2 meters away from the stage, and I felt myself slowly rise as the guy stood back up. I looked around me and saw the faces of the crowd, smiling, singing, all in one huge unity. The feeling I got at this moment was the most amazing feeling in the world, it was literally like I was flying - I can’t even begin to put it into words. The atmosphere, the lighting, and of course, the music. All I could do was throw my arms into the air and rejoice as though I was floating in the sea. I looked straight into Matty’s eyes, and as I was the only person on shoulders, he noticed me. All of a sudden, he started staring right into my eyes, singing down the microphone. To me. I didn’t think the feeling could get any more amazing but somehow it did. For around 10/20 seconds he continued staring into my eyes. When he noticed my laughing he began to smile too.
That’s the thing about concerts, everyone is one. The whole crowd is one huge unity, all there for the sale reason. To listen to the music they love sang by the people they love. There’s no hate, just all, wonderful vibes. I realised that night, again, to make the most of every moment possible. The time really is now.
I was looking through YouTube videos of the concert and found one where I’m up on the shoulders. The picture was pretty blurry - it still is, but after a little editing I managed to make it as clear as it is here. I don’t think I’ll ever forget that moment and now I’m so glad I have a picture.
Enjoy yourself. :)
To hell with them. Nothing hurts if you don’t let it.
There is nothing pathetic about drinking alcohol alone. Sometimes it goes down easier that way. If someone tells you that you must be sad if you are getting drunk by yourself than you should tell that person you love yourself in every kind of state of mind. Even if the state is blurry and incoherent.
If you want to be by yourself while being surrounded by others, know that that’s okay. Sometimes even the friendliest of people need their space, and just because you want to be alone even when you are not, know that there is nothing wrong with wanting to escape just so you can become closer to yourself.
Just because you spend most of your time locked in your room doesn’t mean that you want to close the world out for good. Sometimes you have to spend time away just to realize that the world is still out there, and that it will be waiting for you when you think that it’s time to start exploring.
Putting yourself over others at times isn’t selfish, it’s human, and it’s the only way that you will ever be able to make yourself happy. If someone calls you selfish for not wanting to do what they want to do, make sure that you tell them that sometimes you have to be selfish. Because what is the point of learning how to understand if you don’t understand yourself first.
If you don’t want to go out to the bar, or to a party that everyone is at, know that you don’t have to. This doesn’t make you boring. This doesn’t mean that you are already past the part in your life where fun is your number one priority. This just means that you would rather spend time with yourself than with others, and there is nothing wrong with preferring your own company over the company of others. Don’t let someone convince you that you are wasting away your freedom. And if they try to, try to make them see that it’s not because you’re uninterested all the time, but because you’re not in the mood for it in that moment.
Loving yourself, being confident with how you look, and praising yourself at times does not mean that you are self-centered. It just means that you know what you are capable of. And since you know that you have to spend the rest of your days trapped inside of your own skin you might as well make friends with yourself instead of considering your own self to be your own worst enemy.
In recent years, biologists have recognized that birds engage in play. Juvenile Common Ravens are among the most playful of bird species. They have been observed to slide down snowbanks, apparently purely for fun. They even engage in games with other species, such as playing catch-me-if-you-can with wolves, otters and dogs. Common Ravens are known for spectacular aerobatic displays, such as flying in loops or interlocking talons with each other in flight.
They are also one of only a few wild animals who make their own toys. They have been observed breaking off twigs to play with socially.
this is so precious omg
